An article from the Game Pro August 2004 magazine centered on The Pumpkin King GBA game, which provides more details on "Bug Day".

Bug Day was Oogie Boogie's original holiday and holiday world prior to his arrival in Halloween Town.

History[]

First created in correlation with the 2005 GameBoy Advance title The Nightmare Before Christmas: The Pumpkin King, Bug Day was Oogie's own holiday before he migrated to Halloween Town.

There are conflicting sources on the origin of this holiday. One source states "Bug Day" was actually a failed attempt by Oogie to create a Holiday of his own.

However, other sources revealed that the holiday was, in fact, an August holiday meant to celebrate bugs. Oogie was a "former holiday king" of this holiday, who, due to unknown circumstances, somehow ruined his own holiday. Oogie and his bugs soon invaded Halloween Town, attempting to replace Halloween with his a new version of his old holiday, which he planned to call Crawloween.

However, Oogie Boogie was thwarted by Jack Skellington, who exiled Oogie Boogie and the spirit of Bug Day to Oogie's underground lair.

Bug Day in Manual

A small mention of the holiday origin in the game's manual.

  • The name "Bug Day" has never been officially used in relation to the game. It's the assumed title, as since Oogie was planning to rename "Halloween Town" to "Bug Town", and that the holiday was meant to celebrate bugs, it seems quite logical.
  • This holiday origin for Oogie is never mentioned in the actual The Nightmare Before Christmas: The Pumpkin King video game. It is, however, mentioned in the manual and in a 2004 Gamepro article, which was a first look at the game.
  • This leads to a role reversal of the original film, as Jack himself is now having his own holiday taken over by another holiday king.
